油畫藝術創作是創作者深厚的文化修養和人生體驗的綜合呈現，它凝結著畫面之外真誠的文化探索與生命訴求。中國油畫院的學術理念是以尋源問道的學術精神，尚德歸真的學者態度，至善至美的學術追求，傳承經典，復興創造，為繁榮當代的中國油畫藝術不懈追求。為此，中國油畫院開展了各類人文與藝術的講座；中外經典哲學系列；中外藝術史系列。電影發布和音樂會等等系列學術活動，邀請社會各領域的學者、專家與院內外藝術家和學生進行深入的交流與探討。為使中國油畫院的學術層次向更高更深更全面的方向發展而努力。
Oil painting is the unified expression of the painter’s deep cultivation and personal experience, embodying the pursuit of life and the sincere exploration of culture beyond the painted surface. The academic tenet of the Chinese Academy of Oil Painting is the inheritance of tradition, revival of artistic creation, and tireless aspiration towards the prosperity of contemporary Chinese oil painting through the academic spirit of Seeking the Source and the Way, the scholarly attitude of adhering to virtue and truth, and the educated pursuit of goodness and beauty. To achieve this, the Academy organizes various lectures on humanities and the arts; a series on classical Chinese and foreign philosophies; and a series on Chinese and foreign art history. Movies, concerts and other academic activities invite scholars and experts from all fields of society to engage in deep exchange and discussion with artists and students from and outside of the Academy. Through these efforts, the Academy endeavors to more deeply and fully develop its academic level.
藝術的發展需要不同聲音相互碰撞，在交流激勵中成長。為此，中國油畫院每年會針對院內的展覽活動及課題，邀請國內不同學術領域的有深入思考和研究的藝術家、學者、藝評家等進行主題性的深入研討交流，旨在探討和解決面臨的新問題，突破個人的思維局限，進行開放式的對話和討論。以加強中國油畫院與外界的交流，促進學術的全面成長。
